Why Putney?
Putney is a suburb of Sydney located 12 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD on the northern bank of the Parramatta River. Its local government area is the City of Ryde.
History
The area of Putney and Ryde was originally known as Eastern Farms and then Kissing Point by British Colonists. The name Putney is derived from its namesake Putney on the River Thames in London. Parramatta River had been known as the “Thames of the Antipodes” and other nearby suburbs were also named after Thames localities of Greenwich, Woolwich and Henley.
Transport
Putney is served by buses and the Kissing Point ferry wharf provides access to the Parramatta River ferry services. Meadowbank railway station is located beyond the suburb’s north western boundary.

Putney is home to sporting fields, parks, a shopping area and a few restaurants.
