Why Epping?
Epping is a suburb of Sydney, NSW Australia and situated 18 kilometres north-west of the Sydney CBD. Epping is in the north-west of Sydney’s metropolitan area, an area which is sometimes included in the Northern Sydney region and sometimes in the Greater Western Sydney region.
History
In 1792, Governor Arthur Phillip began granting parcels of land to marines and the area was referred to on Phillip’s maps as the Field of Mars (Mars being the Roman God of war). It contained the area of what is now Epping. In 1899 the suburb name of Epping was adopted following the suggestion by a local land owner, William Midson after a town near Epping Forest in Essex where his father was born.
Transport
Epping railway station is a junction station on the Northern Line of the Sydney Trains network, the Central Coast & Newcastle Line of the NSW TrainLink as well as being on the Sydney Metro Northwest line. Bus services and major roads, motorways connect Epping to various other central business districts and suburbs.

There are a number of community facilities in Epping, including an Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Epping YMCA which includes facilities such as health and fitness groups, indoor stadium, tennis and gymnastics arena, as well as other parks, churches, playgrounds, sports fields and shopping centres.
